Common problems and answers for small excavators

1. Starting problems

Difficult to start or unable to start

Reason: It may be due to insufficient battery power, starter failure, generator failure or line problem.

Solution: Check the battery power, charge or replace if necessary; check the starter and generator, repair or replace; check the line and repair.

2. Working powerless

Excavation powerless

Reason: hydraulic pump wear, multi-way distribution valve failure, pilot gear pump failure or hydraulic oil deterioration.

Solution: Check the hydraulic pump and replace worn parts if necessary; debug the multi-way distribution valve and reset the pressure; replace the pilot gear pump or adjust the safety valve; regularly replace the hydraulic oil.

3. Traveling problems

Walking deviation

Reason: hydraulic pump failure, travel motor safety valve leakage or travel main valve damage.

Solution: Check the hydraulic pump and replace if necessary; replace the travel motor safety valve; check the travel main valve and replace or repair if necessary.

4. Operation problem

Large slewing support gap

Reason: The small excavator slewing motor has no anti-sway device, and the braking inertia causes swinging.

Solution: Explain to the customer that this is normal and avoid using mechanical brakes.

Arm drop phenomenon

Reason: Leakage in the main valve or in the oil cylinder.

Solution: Check the main valve and clean or replace it if necessary; ensure that the oil cylinder is well sealed.

5. Engine problem

The engine emits black smoke

Reason: poor diesel quality, carbon deposits on the injector nozzle or changes in engine load.

Solution: Use high-quality diesel, clean the injector nozzle regularly, and avoid overload.

Engine overheating

Reason: insufficient coolant, radiator blockage or broken fan belt.

Solution: Check the coolant level, clean the radiator, and replace the fan belt.

6. Electrical system problem

Loud noise at start-up but cannot start

Reason: starter motor failure or low battery.

Solution: Check the starter motor and battery and replace if necessary.

7. Track and chassis problems

Loose track

Reason: Uneven track tension.

Solution: Refer to the operating manual to adjust the track tension.

Abnormal track noise

Reason: Track wear or uneven tension.

Solution: Check the wear of the track, adjust the tensioner, and replace the track shoes if necessary.

8. Other issues

Oil pressure alarm

Reason: Insufficient oil or oil system failure.

Solution: Check the oil level and add oil if necessary; check the oil system to ensure there is no leakage.

The arm stops during compound action

Reason: The return oil back pressure is set too low.

Solution: Adjust the return oil back pressure setting to ensure that the engine speed is not less than 1600rpm.

Preventive maintenance recommendations

Regularly replace hydraulic oil, engine oil and filters.

Check track tension and wear.

Check the electrical system to ensure that the connection is firm.

Check the engine cooling system to ensure sufficient coolant.
